The Knoll Saarinen dining table makes a statement with its elegant tulip base and marble top. Eero Saarinen designed this unique dining table in 1956. The oval marble top measures 198 x 121 cm and was made from the world famous Italian Carrara marble right from the start. Knoll Studio offers this table in different versions.
Die Saarinen Tulip Serie
With his designs for the Tulip furniture series, Eero Saarinen succeeded in creating a groundbreaking furniture series. For the first time, a chair was produced with only one leg - and a whole series of numerous tables to go with it. Manufacturer's website The Tulip series by Eero Saarinen, 1957 Eero Saarinen's designs represent the visionary and progressive mentality of the mid-20th century - especially those in the USA. With his architectural designs for the TWA terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport New York, Saarinen gave civil aviation a futuristic identity in the age of the first jets. The world went global again. Traveling by plane was considered an exclusive expression of cosmopolitan elegance. Eero Saarinen's work as a furniture designer was also to have a profound impact on America in the 1950s and 1960s. The Tulip collection for Knoll emerged from his early attempts to experiment with materials and shapes. The organic design also reflects the space era. A search for almost natural forms should create a departure from the traditional four-legged table. "I wanted to get rid of the tangle of legs," says Saarinen.
Arabescato marble from Italy
The marble from the Italian region of Carrara is one of the most beautiful light marble types. Despite its delicate, filigree pattern, Arabescato marble is very robust and usable for everyday use. None other than Michelangelo bought the marble for his wonderful statues here. Geographically, the quarries of Arabescato marble are located in the Apuan Alps. Historical quarries are open to visitors here, while this fascinating natural stone is mined and processed in many quarries in enormously large blocks. The radiant white of the Arabescato marble and the finely veined gray lines that run through the stone in a completely natural way are unique. In order to better protect the marble from acid from food and drinks, Knoll provides the marble slabs with a polyester coating.
